Supporting Birmingham Pride

On Saturday May the 25th I had the joy of supporting Birmingham Pride with Central Co-0p. Central Co-op has supported Birmingham Pride for a number of years, and I’ve attended when I can.

In previous years I took part in the Parade with Central Co-op and one year with members of Co-op Group and the Midcounties Co-op. For 2024’s edition of Birmingham Pride I stayed on the Central Co-op stall for most of the day. I got to speak to those attending about how they were enjoying Pride and in some cases, how much it means to them to have events like this where they are free to express who they are, without fear of negative consequences. Homophobia is still rife within society so to have events like Birmingham Pride as a way to show solidarity with people of all sexualities is important.  Personally, I am bisexual and so the conversations I had with these people rang true with my personal experiences. The other representatives from Central Co-op and also handed out badges, flags and other Pride themed items.

I took a break from the stall to enjoy the activities going on, including watching Drag Karaoke and a Dance troupe.

It’s always a delight to be part of Birmingham Pride and I will do so whenever I can. Central Co-op are going to be part of Lichfield Pride and Stafford Pride later in the summer, where I will be joining in. I’ll be sure to be part of the parades.
